About the Role

Under the supervision of the principal or other supervisor, the ESL Teacher Assistant assists students from bi-lingual homes, helping them with basic academic skills and class assignments. The role involves preparing class materials, correcting and recording assignments, and providing a wide variety of other support services.

Responsibilities

• Assist the teacher with classroom conduct and management.
• Prepare class materials and instructional aids.
• Correct and record student assignments.
• Support students from bi-lingual homes with basic academic skills and class assignments.
• Demonstrate patience and empathy when working with children.

Requirements

• High school graduation or equivalent education and/or experience.
• The equivalent of two years (48 semester hours) full-time education at an institution of higher education; or an associate's degree; or the ability to pass a Utah State Office of Education approved Para-Professional Test.
• Interpersonal and communication skills.
• Secretarial/clerical skills, including ability to operate a computer (may be required).

Qualifications

• Proficiency in a second language and knowledge of a second culture preferred.
• Basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, English pronunciation, reading comprehension, and related skills.
• Ability to work well with students, teachers, and administrators.

Pay

Salary Grade 3: $17.24 per hour (2026-27 Support Salary Table). Promotions result in a minimum 5% increase.

Schedule

5.9 hours per day / 174 days per year.
