Teacher Assistant

Join Easterseals NY in Port Jervis, NY as a Teacher Assistant and collaborate with our team to create a safe, warm, and caring educational environment for preschool students in integrated and self-contained classrooms.

Responsibilities

• Work under the supervision of the classroom teacher
• Assist in caring for the physical needs of children
• Attend staffing and departmental in-service meetings as assigned
• Assist in keeping classroom and program supplies ready and well maintained
• Maintain professional ethics regarding the discussion of pupils and their conditions
• Assist individuals with toileting and personal care needs when necessary
• Support behavior management of children under the supervision of the classroom teacher as outlined by program and agency policies
• Interact with children in a nurturing and developmentally appropriate way, encouraging self-help
• Assist in child observation, record keeping, and assessment

Requirements

• High School education or GED (Bachelor’s Degree preferred)
• Two (2) years of practical experience working with children is preferred
• Level I NYS Teacher Assistant Certification

Pay

$17.00–$19.00 per hour (depending on experience and education)

Schedule

10-month position with the option to work in the summer for increased compensation
