Teacher Assistant - CAAT
20–25 hours per week, part-time, non-exempt/hourly position.

About the Role
Under the direction of the Program Director, Assistant Program Director, and Teacher in Charge, the Teacher Assistant organizes activities that foster participants’ physical, emotional, intellectual, and social growth. The role involves delivering educational and engaging activities in a safe after-school childcare environment for youth ages 5–11.
Responsibilities
- Manage groups of participants.
- Lead and/or assist in implementing curriculum plans.
- Facilitate a safe, productive learning environment.
- Create a fun, visually appealing space for youth.
- Model, enforce, and teach age-appropriate social, physical, and emotional behaviors.
- Use positive behavior management strategies for disruptive behaviors.
- Demonstrate leadership and act as a positive role model.
- Perform daily setup and cleanup in alignment with Department of Health regulations and UAU policies.
- Follow all safety protocols outlined by the Department of Health, DYCD, and UAU.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED (required).
- Matriculated college student or higher from an accredited institution (preferred).
- 1+ years of experience working with children (preferred).
- Valid driver’s license.
- Commitment to a strength-based perspective.
- Cultural competency—ability to understand, communicate with, and effectively interact with people across cultures and age ranges.
- Must pass reference checks and background screenings as designated by DOH, DOE, DYCD, and UAU.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving and mathematical skills.

- Willingness to take initiative and be flexible.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently with minimal supervision.
- Professional, polite, and courteous interaction with staff, families, and participants.
- Detail-oriented and thorough.
Physical Requirements
- Occasional standing, sitting, or walking; scheduled based on operational need.
- Works both indoors and outdoors (weather permitting).
- Approximately 30% sitting, 70% walking or standing.
- Must remain stationary for at least 20% of the time.
- May require prolonged standing and walking (up to 95% of the day).
- Ability to communicate information clearly so others understand.
- Ability to observe details at close range.
Pay
$18–$22 per hour (based on city, state, and/or federal contractual obligations and budgetary allowances).
