Teacher Assistant - Bancroft School
About the role
The Bancroft School is seeking a Teacher Assistant to support classroom Teachers in planning and implementing instruction tailored to the educational needs of assigned students. This role encourages and supports students to help them achieve the best possible educational experience.
Responsibilities
- Provides assistance to Teacher in planning classroom curriculum and implements plans to meet the physical, emotional, and educational needs of students;
- Aids in the development and implementation of lesson plans and activities that are individual-specific, meet the learning needs of students, encourage increased skills, and address specific IEP goals;
- Maintains order and guides students to socially appropriate behavior;
- Utilizes approved cleaning solutions to clean toys/equipment after each use;
- Observes and tracks student behavior, gathers behavioral data, performs calculations, and creates graphic illustrations for review by Teachers, clinical-specific staff, etc., to identify and monitor student proficiency and performance levels, to support modifications to current educational program or medication, etc.;
- Provides ongoing assistance to teachers in the management of individual behavior of students to create and maintain a safe and secure classroom environment. Reports any safety hazards, property damage, etc., to Teacher;
- Works with Teacher in the utilization of instructional resources and teaching strategies;
- Shares ideas and instructional resources with other classroom staffs;
- Works directly with all students in accordance with established levels of supervision, the IEP, and the established behavior plan;
- Instructs, prompts, and/or assists students in the achievement of educational goals while actively encouraging the independence of each person within his/her ability limit while following the IEP and individual behavior plan;
- Accompanies students, provides guidance, and participates in school-related activities; e.g., class trips, extracurricular activities, meals, etc.
Requirements
- Associates degree in a related field or 60 college credits required;
- NJDOE substitute teacher’s certification required;
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field preferred.
Qualifications
Dependent upon the program and in the absence of the assigned One-to-One Education Program Associate for a student, may substitute for the One-to-One Education Program Associate and work directly with the individual student.
