About the role
The Early Childhood Learning Center (ECLC) seeks to provide a program of experience designed to attain the following goals: to provide many opportunities for social development and adjustment; to promote development of good health habits; to provide opportunities for self-expression through language, music, art, role playing, dramatizations, and other play experiences; to provide an atmosphere in which a child can succeed, thus building confidence in his or her own ability and worth.
To provide an atmosphere in which creativity is stimulated; to develop a feeling of adequacy with emphasis on independence and good work habits; and to lay foundations for subject matter learning and intellectual growth. Plan and implement a program that will enrich the physical, social, emotional and intellectual needs of children ages 0-5.
To provide elementary education majors and individuals seeking Birth-Kindergarten certification an opportunity to become familiar with young children and their characteristics and to enable the translation of theoretical concepts into practical applications.
Responsibilities
- Assist the teacher with planning and implementing a program that will enrich the physical, social and emotional needs of these children.
- Perform administrative duties that include completing, keeping accurate enrollment records of students, notifying the administrative assistant and director of any changes in the status of any child.
- Maintain an environment that is free of danger and must have the ability to administer CPR and first aid should the need arise.
- Mentor parents, work study students and students majoring in elementary education and birth to kindergarten.
- Be responsible for maintaining an open line of communications with parents of these children as well as university officials and local childcare agencies.
Requirements
- Graduation from high school or GED;
- One year of experience in an early childhood program serving infants and toddlers in a developmentally appropriate environment.
- Prefer candidate with a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential for Infant and Toddler Caregivers or an equivalent credential that addresses comparable competencies;
- Must have (or be willing to obtain) training and experience necessary to develop consistent, stable, and supportive relationships with very young children.
Qualifications
- An associate degree or higher in Early Childhood Education from an accredited community college.
- At least three (3) years experience working in a child care setting.
- Child care credentials I and II Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) certificate CPR and First Aid
Skills
- COMMUNICATION: Ability to provide effective feedback to leadership regarding developmental progress and classroom needs.
- ABILITY TO CONVEY INFORMATION EFFECTIVELY IN WRITTEN FORM TO PARENTS AND OTHER CAREGIVERS SUCH AS DAILY PROGRESS REPORTS OR CLASSROOM OBSERVATIONS.
- ABILITY TO FURTHER ORGANIZATIONAL MISSION AND GOALS THROUGH PARTICIPATION IN COMMUNITY OUTREACH
- CHILDCARE AND INSTRUCTION: Ability to apply knowledge of childcare techniques to ensure basic physical care of children.
- ABILITY TO WORK WITH CHILDREN IN GROUPS AND INDIVIDUALLY TO MODEL SOCIALIZATION AND BEHAVIOR SKILLS.
- CURRICULUM IMPLEMENTATION: Ability to carry out varied instructional plans for assigned age groups.
- ABILITY TO PROVIDE FEEDBACK REGARDING CURRICULUM COMPREHENSION TO LEADERSHIP.
- SAFETY: Ability to apply knowledge of safety techniques to facilities and children.
- ABILITY TO PROVIDE PREVENTIVE MEASURES, FIRST AID, MEDICATION, AND TREATMENTS AS NECESSARY.
