Teacher Assistant
About the role
The Teacher Assistant (including substitutes and floaters) assists the Head Start Teacher in delivering the classroom curriculum in accordance with Head Start regulations, licensing, and guidelines, and will use agency standards to ensure that services provided are in alignment with the Social Determinants of Health through a trauma informed care lens as defined by the agency.
Responsibilities
- Aids in the delivery of the classroom curriculum
- Maintains classroom supervision at all times
- Ensures the classroom environment supports positive communication, appropriate physical proximity, respect, positive discipline, and guidance
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED plus a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential required
- Working towards an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree with a major relative to early childhood education preferred
- Current Pediatric CPR and First Aid Certification
- Previous classroom experience and ability to utilize various learning techniques in the successful delivery of curricula
- Understanding of cultural differences and sensitivity to their implications for service delivery
- Fluency in English and Spanish (read, write, and speak) desirable
