Qualifications
- Completed at least 2 years of study (forty-eight semester hours) at an institution of higher education; or
- Obtained an associate’s degree; or
- Met a rigorous standard of quality via a formal assessment (Mississippi Test: ACT Work Keys – Reading for Information, Applied Mathematics, and Writing subtests).
All personnel must pass a criminal background check and a current child-abuse registry check. A satisfactory employment record is required.
Reports To
Building Principal, Assistant Principal, and Certified Teacher
Responsibilities
- Participate in district and school professional-development programs and comply with all district policies and procedures.
- Engage in a minimum of thirty minutes per week of instructional planning with the Certified Teacher.
- Model good reading, writing, and speaking skills for students.
- Work directly with students to reinforce skills taught by the certified teacher, including:
- Conducting learning exercises with large and small groups in basic language, reading, mathematics, and social skills.
- Guiding children in harmonious group work and play.
- Monitor written assignments, detect misunderstandings, and report them to the certified teacher for immediate re-teaching or reinforcement.
- Alert the certified teacher to special needs of individual children.
- Provide escort and assistance to students in cafeteria, restroom, water fountain, playground, and other areas.
- Remain alert to hazards such as obstructed walkways, unsafe playground equipment, unauthorized personnel, unsafe floor surfaces, and other unsafe conditions.
- Assist the certified teacher in maintaining individual student records.
- Collect and display suitable materials for educational displays.
- Assist the certified teacher in coaching physical activities that strengthen large motor skills.
- Perform any other duties within the scope of this job description as assigned by the Principal and/or Certified Teacher.
- Perform related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Superintendent, or other central-office administrators.

Travel Requirements
Travel to school-district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Physical and Mental Demands
Work in a standard school-building environment.
