About the role
Reporting to the Center Director or classroom Teacher, the Teacher Assistant helps implement the daily classroom schedule, supervises and guides children, prepares supplies, handles issues, and plans jointly with the Teacher. The Teacher Assistant actively supervises and ensures the safety of all children in the classroom. In the absence of the Teacher, the Teacher Assistant may temporarily assume the duties of the teacher. This position may float to other classrooms as needed for classroom coverage.
Responsibilities
- Help implement the daily classroom schedule.
- Supervise and guide children.
- Prepare classroom supplies.
- Handle issues and plan jointly with the Teacher.
- Actively supervise and ensure the safety of all children in the classroom.
- Temporarily assume the duties of the Teacher in their absence.
- Float to other classrooms as needed for coverage.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- National Child Development Associate Certification (CDA) or Florida Child Care Professional Certification (FCCPC), or currently enrolled in a program leading to an Associate or Baccalaureate Degree or CDA credential program (to be completed within one year of hire).
- Meet all Department of Children and Families requirements for employment.
- Successfully complete the forty-five-hour childcare class.
- Prefer minimum of one-year experience working with children birth to five.
- Must pass a background screening through the Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse (per Florida HB 531).
Physical Demands
- Actively involved with children at all times.
- Stand for long periods while working in the classroom and on the playground.
- Moderate to vigorous physical activity required throughout the day.
- Stoop, bend, kneel, hop, and skip.
- Sit on the floor with children during circle time and center time.
- Lift up to 50 lbs.
- May require riding a school bus.
Pay
$15.45 per hour.
