Teacher Assistant ART
About the role
The Teacher Assistant at 46 River Oaks Elementary supports the educational and instructional goals of the teacher by assisting in the planning and development of individualized training programs for students.
Essential Functions
- Participate in district and school professional development programs.
- Comply with all district policies and procedures.
- Participate in daily and long-range lesson and classroom activity planning (minimum of 30 minutes per week).
- Model good reading, writing, and speaking skills for students.
- Work directly with students reinforcing skills taught by a certified teacher, including conducting learning exercises with large and small groups of children in areas of basic language, reading, mathematics, and social skills.
- Guide children in working and playing harmoniously with other children.
- Monitor written assignments and report to the certified teacher when misunderstandings are detected for immediate re-teaching/reinforcing purposes.
- Alert the certified teacher to special needs of individual children.
- Provide escort and assistance to students as necessary, including the cafeteria, restroom, water fountain, and playground.
- Remain alert at all times to hazards such as obstructed walkways, unsafe playground equipment, unauthorized personnel on school properties, unsafe floor surfaces, and any other unsafe conditions.
- Assist the certified teacher in maintaining individual student records.
- Collect and display suitable material for educational displays.
- Assist the certified teacher in coaching physical activities that strengthen large motor skills.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Superintendent, and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Terms of Employment
184 days annually with salary in accordance with the Administrative Salary Schedule as approved by the Harrison County School District.
Evaluation
Performance of the Teacher Assistant will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions in the School Board Policies and Procedures.
