About the role

The Visual Arts Teacher will organize and maintain a safe and inclusive classroom environment while ensuring instruction aligns with the Massachusetts Visual Arts Curriculum Frameworks. This position requires designing developmentally appropriate challenges, providing rigorous instruction, and implementing processes that foster strong habits of mind. The ideal candidate supports diverse learning styles and creates opportunities for students to work both independently and collaboratively.

Responsibilities

• Create and deliver engaging, standards-based visual arts lessons for students
• Teach a variety of media including drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, and digital art
• Foster student creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration
• Support students in developing critical thinking and self-expression through the visual arts
• Maintain a safe, organized, and inclusive classroom environment
• Display and celebrate student artwork throughout the school and in public exhibitions
• Regularly assess and document student learning and progress
• Incorporate technology and interdisciplinary connections where appropriate
• Participate in school-wide planning, professional development, and collaborative team meetings
• Maintain ongoing communication with students, families, and colleagues
• Model and promote high expectations for student behavior and academic achievement

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or related field
• Massachusetts DESE Certification in Visual Arts
• Experience working with middle school students preferred
• Bilingual candidates strongly encouraged to apply
• Experience in urban education and a commitment to community engagement preferred

Skills

• Highly qualified visual arts educator with strong studio and teaching skills
• Deep understanding of artmaking processes, materials, and techniques
• Knowledge of how diverse learners acquire and engage with visual arts content
• Ability to reflect on teaching practices and use data to improve instruction
• Willingness to accept and apply constructive feedback from supervisors and peers
• Strong collaboration and communication skills
• Ability to differentiate instruction and support inclusion

Pay

$61,788 - $94,614

Schedule

Full-time, non-exempt salaried position, 183 days (LTU).
