Job Summary And Purpose
The Head Start Teacher Aide is a critical member of the team and will be employed at school sites on a daily basis, serving staff, children and volunteers and representing the company. Must ensure all health, safety, and nutrition guidelines are followed.
Specific Duties Include:
- Serves children during mealtimes, assists Teachers and classrooms.
- Communicates with central kitchen, posting menus, tracking food allergies in children and alerting staff of any concerns.
- Maintain sanitation and disinfecting practices, preventing cross-contamination.
- Restock kitchen and materials.
- Work to keep physical environment consistent with state and local licensing requirements and the health and safety needs of the children.
Essential Duties:

Qualifications
- Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications.
- Proof at the time of hire TB clearance within 6 months prior.
- Annual Influenza vaccination (between Nov. 1st - Mar. 31st).
- Pertussis (whooping cough) and measles immunization.
- Health screening at the time of employment.
- Requires ability to interact with children in a busy environment including, but not limited to: Able to lift up to 50 lbs. Frequently kneel and squat. Ability to move quickly.
Education
- High School Diploma/GED and certification of 12 ECE/CD units or Enrolled in, or completed apprenticeship certification.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 24 units in ECE or CD, including 3 units of infant/toddler for EHS.
- Assistant Teacher Permit or higher.
- Food handler certificate.
- Certifications in public health, Nutrition education, Food safety, or related field.
- Work experience in Head Start/Early Head Start programs.
- Promotes nutrition curriculum, activities and initiatives.
- Bilingual English/Spanish or other language i.e. Armenian or Farsi.
