Teacher Aide - North High (12 positions)

12 positions available – 30 hours per week (6 hours per day), 10 months per school year.

About the role

Teacher Aides may be required to provide personal care to students including toileting. Lifting may be involved. Aides may work in life-skills classrooms, as job coaches, or with special-needs students.

Responsibilities

• Assigned as a teacher aide to PPS (Preschool Special Programs)
• Supervise students in hallways, cafeteria, and other school areas
• Serve as an aide in an office setting
• Assist in other areas as necessary

Requirements

• Patience and an even-tempered, non-confrontational demeanor
• Ability to diffuse situations and maintain a calm exterior
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work as part of a team and perform calmly in a busy setting
• Ability to multi-task and communicate effectively with teenagers
• Experience working one-on-one with students
• Computer and data entry skills
• Flexibility and resilience
• Firm, assertive manner while maintaining confidentiality
• Experience working with high school-aged children

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma; OR
• Four (4) years of experience and knowledge in a particular field where specialized duties are involved; OR
• An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined above.

Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.

• Familiarity with classroom routine

• Resourcefulness in conducting activities indirectly related to the teaching process
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
• Dependability, neat personal appearance, tact, courtesy, and good judgment
• Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position

Pay

Starting pay rate: $18.90/hour.

Hourly stipends apply as follows:

• Split aide (assigned to both general education & PPS aide duties); UPK aide; Literacy aide; Primary Project aide; Health aide; Attendance aide: +$0.50/hour
• PPS aide; Job coach aide: +$1.50/hour
