Qualifications
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and:
- Additional experience and knowledge in a particular field where specialized duties are involved; OR
- Have served in a community service organization, church, or education/recreation organization for a minimum of one (1) year; OR
- An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits above.
Note: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.
Reports To
Administrator in building assignment who provides direct supervision.
Responsibilities
- Assist student with behavioral/management needs.
- Assist in physical care tasks and health-related activities, including feeding and toileting.
- Work with student to reinforce the learning of materials and skills initially introduced by the teacher.
- Supervise/assist student during specials, lunch, arrival, and dismissal.
- Participate in in-service training programs as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal or supervising teacher.

- Ability to gain and hold the confidence of and to maintain a patient and understanding attitude toward school children.
- Ability to maintain order in classrooms and to enforce school regulations with firmness.
- Familiarity with classroom routine.
- Good background or knowledge in a specific field where specialized duties are involved.
- Resourcefulness in conducting activities indirectly related to the teaching process.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to maintain discipline.
- Dependability, neat personal appearance, tact, courtesy, and good judgment.
- Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
