Responsibilities

  • To establish and maintain a safe and healthy learning environment.

  • Uses equipment and materials for indoor and outdoor play that promotes children's physical development.
  • Supports an integrated curriculum that meets the needs of individual children.
  • Supports experiences that promote language and literacy development.
  • Supports activities that promote the acquisition of math and science concepts.
  • Assist with extra-curricular programs such as music, gymnastics, swimming, etc.
  • To support social and emotional development and provide positive guidance.
  • Supports activities that develop positive self-esteem.
  • Supports activities that develop social skills.
  • Supports culturally diverse experiences.
  • Uses and promotes positive guidance techniques.
  • Supports a wide variety of creative and expressive activities.
  • Supports routines with smooth transition periods.
  • Communicates with children at their developmental level.
  • Encourages children to be independent.

Requirements

  • Warm, supportive attitude toward children and reliable HS Diploma or GED.
  • Flexible in receiving assignments or adapting to changes in the program.
  • Willing to accept supervision in order to improve performance.
  • Must be willing to perform other duties as required.
  • Students, youth and teacher aides may assist in the care of children provided that they: Are 14 years of age or older and at least five years older than the oldest child in the group. Assist only under the direct supervision of an early childhood teacher or a school-age worker; and Are not counted for purposes of maintaining staff /child ratios, except as provided in Section 407.160(d).

Qualifications

  • Must be physically able to perform the job of an early childhood teacher (e.g. able to lift children and/or equipment up to 40lbs; able to stoop, bend, sit and stand for extended periods of time).
