About the role

In this role, you will lead correctional staff and guide daily operations. You will handle scheduling, training, and making sure both staff and inmates stay safe. You will also help improve security procedures and the way work is done in the facility.

Responsibilities

A major part of your day will involve keeping the facility secure. You will oversee contraband searches, inmate counts, feeding, and movement throughout housing and work areas. In short, you will make sure everything runs safely and smoothly.

  • Monitor inmate behavior, conduct or supervise searches, and step in when someone becomes disruptive
  • Manage inmate transfers and transportation
  • Supervise inmates working in areas such as construction, maintenance, laundry, food service, industrial shops, and agricultural operations
  • Take part in emergency response efforts, including providing first aid, calling for additional help, carrying injured individuals, or using necessary force to maintain safety
  • Review inmate records, enforce rules, and make sure disciplinary procedures are followed correctly
  • Oversee required paperwork, reports, inspections, and any needed corrections

Requirements

You will need a high school diploma or GED, six years of full-time correctional or law enforcement experience, and at least three years of supervisory experience, including one year as a midlevel manager.

Qualifications

You will do well in this position if you communicate clearly, stay dependable, and pay close attention to what is happening around you. Strong organization skills are important because you will manage schedules, reports, inspections, and documentation. You should also be comfortable responding quickly to operational needs and keeping leadership informed.

This job works best for someone who stays calm under pressure, works well with others, follows rules and policies closely, and can solve problems as they come up.

Skills

You'd be a GREAT fit if you already understand the department's structure, policies, rules, and regulations, and if you have experience supervising other supervisors as a midlevel manager. This position is well suited for someone who carries strong leadership presence and can inspire confidence in staff.

Additional Information

Retiree salary will be 2.5% less than the posted salary. Travel is not required, but may make day trips. Work site visits are required. Pre-service training academy is required. This is a hazardous duty/longevity position.
