TDCJ - Maintenance Supervisor III - Laundry, Food

About the role

This position supervises maintenance work involving laundry equipment, kitchen and foodservice equipment, general building maintenance, and construction activities. Duties include planning and assigning work to maintenance staff, prioritizing preventive, corrective, and emergency repairs, and inspecting completed work to ensure proper and safe performance.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with other supervisors and departments to use employees, materials, and equipment efficiently.
• Estimate projects by determining necessary labor, materials, supplies, and resources.
• Order materials and maintain accurate maintenance records, repair logs, and reports.
• Train and supervise inmate workers assisting with maintenance and construction while ensuring adherence to safety rules, policies, procedures, and regulations.
• Support the safe supervision of assigned inmates during work activities.
• Operate and troubleshoot laundry and foodservice equipment, as well as other machinery and systems related to the assigned area.
• Use test equipment, tools, and instruments to diagnose and repair issues.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical systems, including steam and refrigeration systems used in institutional settings.
• Apply strong problem-solving skills to identify equipment issues and determine appropriate repairs.

Requirements

• A high school diploma or GED and at least two years of full-time experience in industrial laundry equipment, foodservice equipment, electrical maintenance, or mechanical facilities maintenance.
• Alternatively, trade or technical school training plus one year of related experience.
• Alternatively, U.S. military technical training plus one year of related experience.

Qualifications

• Experience working with or repairing commercial and industrial equipment.
• Background supervising employees or work crews.
• Ability to communicate effectively, organize and prioritize multiple maintenance tasks, and maintain accurate records and reports.
• Strong troubleshooting abilities and commitment to following and enforcing policies, procedures, safety rules, and regulations.

Skills

• Hands-on experience with commercial or institutional maintenance, including industrial laundry equipment, commercial kitchen and foodservice equipment, electrical systems, mechanical equipment, refrigeration systems, steam systems, wiring and electrical schematics, and a wide range of machinery.
• Proficiency in using testing equipment and diagnostic tools.
