About the role
Supervises and participates in electrical, general maintenance, and construction projects; schedules and assigns preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance work; inspects completed work to ensure it is safe, accurate, and meets required standards; coordinates projects with other supervisors and departments; estimates labor, materials, supplies, and equipment; submits requests for materials and supplies; maintains accurate records and prepares reports; trains and supervises inmate workers; ensures all work follows electrical codes, safety requirements, policies, and procedures; helps maintain the security and accountability of assigned inmates; reads and interprets electrical blueprints, diagrams, and schematics; operates tools, machinery, and equipment; performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least two years of paid electrician experience in maintenance, construction, or an industrial setting.
- Understanding of electrical systems, equipment, and basic mechanical operations.
- Familiarity with current electrical codes, safety rules, and regulations.
- Ability to troubleshoot problems and make sound decisions.
- Ability to organize projects, estimate needed resources, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to communicate instructions clearly and maintain accurate records.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure.
Qualifications
- Completion of an applicable trade, technical, or military electrical training program and related work experience.
- Experience leading electrical, maintenance, or construction crews.
- Experience training and supervising inmate workers.
- Confidence reading electrical blueprints, diagrams, and schematics.
- Skill in preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance.
- Understanding of TDCJ’s organizational structure, policies, procedures, and security requirements.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with staff, departments, outside agencies, officials, and the public.
- Safety-focused, dependable, organized, and comfortable handling several projects at once.
Position may make day trips, but no overnight travel. Position is hazardous duty/longevity eligible. Outside applicants will be required to submit to pre-employment drug testing.
