TCEQ - Natural Resources Specialist V

About the role

Join the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) as a Natural Resources Specialist within the Office of Water. This position contributes to ensuring clean and available water and protecting Texas' water resources as part of the Water Supply Division.

Responsibilities

• Conduct, plan, and coordinate in-office and on-site highly advanced technical reviews, analyses, quality control, and evaluations of routine to advanced information from internal and external customers to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures; follow up with appropriate actions.
• Utilize, develop, and oversee highly advanced data by following established business processes, maintain quality control, and provide information related to drinking water quality and public water systems.
• Provide customer service to internal and external customers related to the agency's drinking water quality program through verbal and written communication, correspondence, reports, meetings, presentations, and responses to Public Information Requests.
• Provide highly advanced technical assistance, training, and mentoring to staff and internal and external customers. Serve as a senior-level technical and regulatory resource for assigned programs/topics.
• Plan and execute special projects required for development and implementation of regulatory processes, data collection, rule writing, legislative work, and Section/Division business process improvement projects.

Requirements

• Experience performing analyses of public drinking water systems, including evaluation of water quality, chemistry, and microbial conditions.
• Experience working for or with public water systems.
• Licensed Surface Water Treatment Plant Operator.

Qualifications

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with a major in natural or physical science, engineering, environmental studies, or related field, plus six years of full-time experience in environmental activities. One year of full-time experience in the field of environmental activities may be substituted for each year (30 semester hours) of the required education.

OR

A master's degree from an accredited college or university in the degrees listed above, or related fields, plus five years of required experience.

OR

A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, science, environmental science, or related fields, plus four years of required experience.

OR

Two years of full-time experience as a Natural Resources Specialist IV at TCEQ.

Employees in this classification may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure, including but not limited to communication infrastructure systems, cybersecurity systems, electric grids, hazardous waste treatment systems, or water treatment facilities. The ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is required to be hired and continue employment with TCEQ.

A copy of your official college transcript or evaluation of foreign credentials in CAPPS is required if needed to meet the qualifications listed above.

Schedule

Standard business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Individual and work group schedules are determined by the TCEQ Austin Headquarters Office.
