As part of TCEQ's Office of Waste, you would contribute to agency efforts to regulate the generation, treatment, storage, and disposal of various wastes and the cleanup of contaminated sites.

Responsibilities

  • Complete/oversee highly advanced personnel management functions, which includes interviewing, hiring, and developing staff, performance management, etc.
  • Manage and oversee the highly advanced staff and activities of the MSW Section, consistent with division and section goals and objectives.
  • Communicate program information to employees, management, and internal and external stakeholders.
  • Oversee and assure the quality and timeliness of customer service by division staff for both internal and external customers.
  • Facilitate professional growth and development opportunities for section staff.
  • Monitor pending workloads and permitting time frames to prevent development of significant backlogs.

Requirements

  • Experience interviewing, hiring, coaching, and managing staff.
  • Experience distributing, monitoring, and reviewing work of others.
  • Experience giving presentations to regulated entities or the public.
  • Experience interpreting and explaining federal or Texas environmental regulations, including specifically solid waste regulations.

Qualifications

  • Experience in the management of a business function, division, or department relevant to assignment.
  • OR Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in a field relevant to assignment.

Employees in this classification series may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure, including but not limited to a communication infrastructure system, cybersecurity system, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment system, or water treatment facility. Accordingly, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a requirement to be hired for and to continue to be employed with TCEQ.
