About the role
This essential leadership role involves utilizing your education, knowledge, training, and experience in the tax field. You will work from the Big Flats Office and report to the Vice President/Director of Tax Services.
Responsibilities
- Review tax returns of simple to medium complexity and, occasionally, complex returns as your experience grows. Make recommendations for accuracy and tax-saving opportunities.
- Prepare tax returns ranging from medium to highly complex, depending on experience.
- Take a lead role in tax planning, including preparing and reviewing quarterly tax projections to ensure appropriate estimates and withholdings.
- Prepare returns for other entities such as partnerships, trusts, and gift taxes as assigned.
- Interact with clients to clarify questions and data for tax return preparation and projections.
- Maintain a good working relationship with clients and staff to enhance client satisfaction.
- Work closely and proactively with clients and advisors to maximize planning opportunities.
- Assume a leadership role for key functions, areas, or processes within the Tax Services Department.
- Work independently with management oversight to improve efficiency, productivity, and meet or exceed budget goals.
- Assemble and guide team members to drive project success.
- Train and mentor associates to enhance team skills and abilities.
- Respond to federal, state, and local correspondence on behalf of assigned clients with minimal direction.
- Support staff with tax issue research, special projects, tax software usage, and responding to tax authority notices and audits.
- Perform research to properly answer client and advisor tax queries.
- Stay current on applicable tax regulations, code changes, and court rulings, and communicate updates to key staff involved in tax planning and preparation.
Requirements
- Excellent academic record; a four-year college degree is required, with a graduate or advanced degree preferred.
- Enrolled Agent certification is required unless exempted by education and credentials. CPA is strongly preferred.
- A minimum of 5-7 years of tax experience, including reviewing and preparing complex tax returns; experience with fiduciary returns is preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proven self-starter with high levels of intensity and motivation.
- Demonstrated passion for exceptional client service.
- Strong technical skills with experience in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Experience with tax-specific applications is required. Preferred experience with Pro System, BNA Income Tax Planner, Intelli-Connect, and other tax research tools and software.
