Tax Senior Manager, Transfer Pricing

About the Role

The Tax Senior Manager, Transfer Pricing is responsible for advising clients on transfer pricing implications related to their business objectives, recommending alternate courses of action, and identifying methods to comply with transfer pricing regulations. This role involves marketing, networking, business development, and recognizing potential changes in tax policy to apply new policies to tax compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Research:
    • Completes financial analysis related to intercompany transactions, including evaluation of industry and client financial data to document appropriate intercompany pricing policies.
    • Identifies when research is appropriate and frames issues to be researched.
  • Tax Compliance:
    • Determines the scope of transfer pricing projects, establishes project budgets and timelines, and drafts presentations for prospective clients.
    • Administers economic analysis and composes final reports.
    • Ensures clients comply with transfer pricing requirements and proposes year-end reviews if applicable.
    • Determines appropriate transfer pricing methods under IRS regulations and OECD Transfer Pricing Guidelines.
    • Ensures tax engagement letters are adopted before commencing work.
    • Conducts detailed reviews of transfer pricing facts, data, and issues through the engagement.
    • Manages engagements to meet established metrics and completes project planning and scheduling.
  • Tax Controversy:
    • Represents clients before tax authorities on contested issues, with guidance from senior professionals.
  • Transfer Pricing Consulting and Documentation Services:
    • Develops, recommends, and implements appropriate transfer pricing methods for specific transactions.
    • Prepares planning and documentation reports.
    • Applies transfer pricing regulations to client business and financial data, identifying issues.
    • Analyzes the applicability and implications of new regulations and reports findings to senior leadership.
    • Identifies opportunities for additional consulting specialties and federal tax cross-selling.
    • Provides transfer pricing advice to maximize client benefits.
  • Tax Provision and FIN 48:
    • Applies general principles of tax accounting and the relevance of transfer pricing in tax provisions.
    • Reviews tax provisions related to transfer pricing.
    • Partners with Assurance professionals to plan tax accrual reviews.
  • Practice, Staff, and Business Development:
    • Identifies opportunities and delivers presentations to pitch service capabilities to clients and potential clients.
    • Prepares proposals, statements of work, and engagement letters.
    • Researches transfer pricing topics and works on teams summarizing recent developments.
    • Drafts tax alerts to communicate developments to external audiences.
    • Creates slides for internal and external presentations.
    • Prepares and presents training materials on topics of interest to internal audiences.
    • Works on special projects to develop the practice, create efficiencies, or improve processes.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities:
    • Supervises the day-to-day workload of Transfer Pricing Managers, Senior Associates, and Associates on assigned engagements and reviews work product.
    • Ensures team members are trained on relevant tax software.
    • Evaluates performance and assists in developing goals and objectives for professional growth.
    • Delivers periodic performance feedback and completes performance evaluations.
    • Acts as a Career Advisor to team members.
  • Tax-Related Software:
    • Uses tax research databases and other tax-related software; knowledge of statistical packages is preferred.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or another relevant field of study (required).
  • Advanced degree (preferred).
  • Eight (8) or more years of prior experience (required).
  • Experience working within a transfer pricing practice (required).
  • Prior experience supervising professionals on a project or engagement basis (required).
  • Experience with review of tax provisions from a transfer pricing perspective (preferred).
  • Prior experience applying knowledge of the interplay between transfer pricing and other areas of tax (preferred).

  • Ability to research taxation topics and communicate or compose written analysis effectively.
  • Ability to network and develop business within Transfer Pricing.
  • Excellent project management skills.

Software Proficiency

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Prior exposure to tax research databases and/or other tax-related software (beneficial).
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis software (preferred).

Pay

Individual salaries are determined based on qualifications, experience, skills, and geography. Ranges are as follows:

  • National Range: $99,750 - $262,500
  • Maryland Range: $99,750 - $262,500
  • NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $99,750 - $262,500
  • Washington DC Range: $99,750 - $262,500
