About the role

The Senior Tax Manager provides tax and consulting services to business clients with pass through entities and their business owners. This includes S-corps, LLCs, Partnerships, estates, trusts, and charitable entities. Responsibilities also involve managing client engagements, supervising and reviewing work of team staff members, and contributing to client satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Performs tax planning, preparation, and research for pass through entities and individual returns
  • Manages client engagements, supervises and reviews work of team staff members, and works closely with clients and internal managers
  • Contributes to client satisfaction by providing timely services and work product
  • Demonstrates an understanding of tax concepts and actively pursues increased tax knowledge through client assignments and current tax developments
  • Tax Compliance: Ensures clients comply with all applicable authorities while minimizing their tax and reporting burdens, and self and client service teams comply with Firm policies and the BDO Tax Quality Manual
  • Conducts top-level review of tax returns and resolves all tax issues with clients; involves specialists where appropriate
  • Plans and reviews the tax process, budgets and staffs, monitors engagement process, and manages client relationships/expectations
  • Identifies and conducts research on issues needing attention, clearly reports findings, and advises clients in a timely manner
  • Develops and introduces new or improved ideas to improve the position of clients, the Firm, or Firm personnel
  • Strategically develops new or improved ideas to improve the position of clients, the Firm, or Firm personnel, e.g., by reducing taxes or expenses or providing non-tax benefits
  • Reviews studies of tax implications and offers clients alternative courses of action
  • Identifies and leverages lessons learned on prior projects, and offers input on how to improve processes and methods

Requirements

  • Eight (8) or more years of prior relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting or consulting/professional services experience, required
  • Prior supervisory experience, required
  • CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (“EA”) (or the equivalent of one of these designations), required

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, required; major in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Statistics, preferred
  • Master’s degree in Accounting or Taxation, preferred

  • Capable of developing and managing a team of tax professionals

  • Executive presence and ability to act as primary client contact for preparation and presentation of issues and resolutions to clients
