Responsibilities
- Review transactions for IRS compliance with Form series 1099 and 5498.
- Escalate reporting issues for correction in a timely manner.
- Provide training to departments based on correction analysis.
- Update quarterly and annual online postings and client mailings.
- Identify, propose, and implement policy/process improvements to enhance efficiency and mitigate risk.
- Analyze data trends and report insights to senior team members.
- Maintain compliance records and documentation aligning with IRS and company policies.
- Generate reports for management review.
- Collaborate with vendors to produce 1099 and 5498 tax forms.
- Address internal and external tax inquiries promptly and professionally.
- Escalate complex client concerns to senior team members when necessary.
- Ensure adherence to IRS regulations and company policies regarding 1099 and 5498 reporting.
- Maintain and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Absorb and respond to audit responses and regulatory reviews.
- Recommend and implement process improvements for efficiency.
- Organize team discussions to optimize best practices.
- Identify and report departmental financial and operational risks.
- Identify team development opportunities in collaboration with senior members.
- Work closely with internal and external colleagues to achieve goals.
- Assist in training and onboarding tax team members.
- Initiate and manage tax-related projects and initiatives.
- Develop a tax communication library and online tax guide.
- Manage transactional reviews in the SIMPLE Tax system.
- Implement updates based on regulatory changes in 1099/5498 reporting.
- Oversee form corrections, research requests, and trend analysis.
- Conduct training sessions and maintain SOP updates.
- Generate management reports and facilitate tax improvement projects.
- Handle IRS/State Tax Board inquiries and compliance matters.
Qualifications
- Experience: Four or more years in 1099/5498 tax reporting within broker-dealer or financial institutions.
- Education: Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Availability: Must be available for overtime.
- Certifications: Series 6 and 26 preferred.
