Tax Managing Director, State and Local Tax - Sales & Use Tax

Job Duties

• Researches complex sales & use tax situations, identifies appropriate sources of research, and prepares detailed reports or taxability matrices.
• Analyzes researched facts and sources, and provides customized and automated solutions for companies to report their sales & use tax obligations.
• Drafts tax memorandums, tax opinions, and other documentation on various sales & use tax issues.
• Reviews client operations to determine states where sales & use tax returns should be filed and ensures proper resale and exemption certificates are maintained.
• Applies all applicable state tax consulting sub-specialties and collaborates with other STS professionals as needed.
• Ensures tax engagement letters are adopted prior to engagement work commencing and manages engagements.
• Aids in the development of consultative sales & use tax strategies and assists in the management of client expectations.
• Drafts technical memoranda regarding sales & use tax issues and applies industry standards and firm policies.
• Engages in negotiations of settlements and voluntary disclosure agreements on sales and use tax matters.
• Utilizes sales & use tax research databases and other related software in the completion of assigned tasks.
• Provides technical client service to multi-state companies with sales & use tax issues and suggests marketing approaches for new client acquisition.

Job Duties - Tax Controversy

• Drafts responses to notices from state taxing authorities.
• Represents clients before tax authorities on contested sales & use tax issues.
• Provides assistance with exam support.

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or other relevant field required.
• Masters degree in Accounting/Taxation or J.D. preferred.
