About the role
We are recruiting for a strategic and creative Income and Franchise Tax Manager to join our State Strategic Tax Review group. This role is part of our Multistate Tax Services (MTS) group, one of the largest SALT practices in the U.S. with over 1,000 professionals.
Responsibilities
- Advising clients on deep technical issues surrounding areas such as apportionment methodologies, tax base modifications, and Tax Reform.
- Researching and analyzing new facts patterns and laws, regulations, cases, and administrative guidance, coordinating with our Innovation professionals.
- Comprehensive review of information to understand a client's business and its tax returns, including a deep understanding of the mechanics of state tax returns.
- Managing a phased project from kick-off through completion, ensuring key milestones are met and approaching tasks with urgency.
- Advising clients on strategies to address technical issues and business restructurings systematically and effectively.
- Managing engagement workflow, engagement team resources, and engagement billing.
- Providing leadership, counseling, and career guidance for the development and motivation of the engagement team.
Qualifications
- Ability to perform job responsibilities within a hybrid work model that requires US Tax professionals to co-locate 2-3 days per week.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field with 5+ years' progressive experience in state and local tax, with a focus on corporate tax.
- Limited immigration sponsorship may be available.
- Ability to travel 10% on average based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve.
- One of the following accreditations obtained: Licensed CPA in state of practice/primary office if eligible to sit for the CPA; Licensed attorney; Enrolled Agent.
- Prioritizing advanced degree such as Masters of Tax, JD, and/or LLM.
- Advanced degree such as Masters of Tax, JD, and/or LLM preferred.
- Preferable advanced degree such as Masters of Tax, JD, and/or LLM.
- Experience in a supervisory and/or project management role.
- Previous consulting experience from a large accounting or law firm, preferably in a consulting-focused role.
- Adept communicator with advanced writing skills, comfortable creating and delivering presentations across all levels of an organization.
