Tax Manager - Indirect Tax - VAT
About the role
The opportunity is to join EY's tax function, specifically the US VAT practice. This role offers the chance to advise multinational clients on non-US indirect tax matters, particularly VAT, GST, and Consumption Tax. You'll assist in bridging the gap between a company's US tax department and its limited knowledge of VAT in foreign jurisdictions. You'll collaborate with colleagues who have experience in foreign country VAT taxation, structures, and solutions.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate a detailed understanding of common principles of VAT and effectively apply them to client situations
- Manage multiple projects and junior team members in the execution of technical matters and operations of the practice
- Research VAT legislation, case law, and other VAT guidance to support Senior Managers and Partners on client engagements
- Participate in and lead educational sessions on developments in international VAT legislation and case law
- Translate technical skills into practical solution-oriented advice, creating added value for clients
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Tax, Law or a related field and 5 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate work experience in Tax
- A minimum of 4 years of VAT/indirect tax consulting experience or equivalent experience in business or working for the government
- Detailed exposure to VAT taxation, country-specific or multi-jurisdictional VAT consulting and VAT compliance
- Excellent managerial, organizational, analytical, and verbal/written communication skills
- 20 to 40% travel, of which 10% may be international, to serve client needs
Qualifications
- A Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Tax, Law or a related field and 4 years of work experience in Tax
- A proven record in a professional services environment
- The ability to adapt your work style to work with both internal and client team members

Pay
The base salary range for this job in all geographic locations in the US is $116,200 to $212,900. The base salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $139,400 to $242,000. Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography.
Schedule
Our expectation is for most people in external, client serving roles to work together in person 60% of the time over the course of an engagement, project or year.

The base salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $139,400 to $242,000.
