Tax Manager, Core Tax Services, ASC 740 & Corporate Tax
About the role
The Tax Manager, Core Tax Services advises clients on tax implications, evaluates alternative actions, and identifies methods to comply with tax regulations. This role involves marketing, networking, and business development within a specialized area, as well as providing written tax advice to clients.
Responsibilities
- Tax Compliance: Ensures clients comply with authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens, and monitors engagement process and actual time incurred vs. budget.
- Conducts top-level review of tax issues and communicates with clients and Assurance counterparts.
- Applies knowledge to understand potential tax issues, recognize risks, and communicate potential changes in tax policy.
- Identifies and frames issues for research, and reports analysis clearly and concisely.
- Applies Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual (TQM) regarding FAS 109 and FIN 48.
- Manages client relationships and expectations, provides timely advice, and manages client billing and collections.
- Tax Consulting: Assists with developing and implementing methods to maximize client benefits, especially by decreasing taxes, and develops work plans for ongoing projects.
- Tax Specialization: Develops an in-depth understanding of technical and practical issues in one or more areas of taxation, such as individual, corporate, property, sales, corporate, pass-through, state and local, international, expatriate, transfer pricing, credits and incentives, compensation and benefits, accounting methods, R&D tax benefits.
- Strategy Development: Introduces and develops new or improved ideas to improve client, Firm, or Firm personnel positions, and reviews tax implications to offer clients alternative courses of action.
- Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises associates and senior associates, reviews work, provides feedback, and acts as a career advisor.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics, or a Master's in Accountancy or Taxation.
- Five (5) or more years of relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services experience.
- Prior supervisory experience.
- Industry expertise in one or more tax specialties.
- CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (or the equivalent of one of these designations).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, tax research databases, and tax compliance process software.

California Range: $112,000 - $150,000
Colorado Range: $104,500 - $115,500
Illinois Range: $105,000 - $130,000
Maryland Range: $113,000 - $120,000
Massachusetts Range: $120,000 - $127,000
Minnesota Range: $90,000 - $120,000
New Jersey Range: $115,000 - $140,000
Ohio Range: $105,000 - $150,000
