Tax Manager
About the role
Withum’s Tax Services Group is a team of tax specialists ensuring tax reporting obligations are met accurately and timely, while minimizing or deferring tax payments. With a comprehensive understanding of international, US federal, state, and local regulations—including our affiliation with HLB International—the team develops economical tax strategies globally. Services include Business, Individual, State & Local tax, R&D Tax Credit, International, and Private Client services.
As a Tax Manager in our Princeton, NJ office, you will lead all aspects of tax engagements, supervise and mentor staff, and build and maintain client relationships. Withum’s culture emphasizes teamwork, client service excellence, and professional growth for all team members.
Responsibilities
- Review individual, trust, partnership, and corporate tax returns prepared by tax staff and/or seniors for accuracy.
- Research and draft memoranda involving complex tax matters.
- Identify and implement tax planning opportunities.
- Handle and resolve tax controversies.
- Oversee complete tax research projects for a variety of clients and industries.
- Manage multiple engagements concurrently with various teams to meet client deadlines.
- Conduct constructive discussions with team members on evaluations and provide counsel.
- Serve in professional development programs as an instructor or discussion leader.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
- CPA license, JD, or Master of Science in Taxation is required.
- At least 5 years of prior experience in the tax department of a public accounting firm, with experience leading multiple engagements and supervising staff.
- Excellent analytical and technical tax skills.
- Exceptional client service and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain outstanding client relationships.
- Ability to manage multiple engagements and competing projects in a fast-paced, results-based team environment.
- Strong leadership, training, and mentoring skills, coupled with excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
- Excellent organizational, project management skills, and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to travel as needed.
Pay
The compensation for this position ranges from $110,000 – $155,000. In addition to the base compensation, Withum offers a competitive benefits package and a bonus program (for eligible roles) based on individual and firm performance. Final offer amounts depend on the role, hiring location, and the individual’s skills, experience, and qualifications.
