Tax Experienced Manager, Digital Assets
About the role
The Tax Experienced Manager, Core Tax Services advises clients on tax implications, evaluates alternative actions to reduce tax burden, identifies compliance methods, and acts as the primary client contact for complex tax issues. This role also involves marketing, networking, and business development within an area of specialization, maintaining client relationships, and providing top-level decisions regarding tax filings and resolutions.
Responsibilities
- Tax Compliance
- Ensures client compliance with applicable authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens.
- Conducts top-level review of tax returns and resolves issues with clients; involves specialists as necessary.
- Communicates with clients and Assurance any issues identified in tax accrual reviews.
- Manages client relationships and expectations according to project needs.
- Plans and reviews the tax process and procedures, including budgeting and staffing.
- Maintains engagement processes and monitors actual time incurred against budget with assistance from Senior.
- Timely bills and manages out-of-scope activity and communicates with clients.
- Researches and identifies complex issues requiring research, clearly reporting findings.
- Trains managers and staff on research skills and helps frame tax issues for analysis.
- Manages client inquiries from federal and state agencies, providing assistance as needed.
- Implements applicable Firm strategies and manages client expectations.
- Tax Consulting
- Assists in developing and implementing methods to maximize client benefits, especially by decreasing taxes.
- Applies tax knowledge and business/industry knowledge to recommend solutions.
- Monitors implementation of work plans for tax consulting projects.
- Manages written or phone inquiries from federal and state agencies.
- Provides effective assistance with protests at the appeals level.
- Implements applicable Firm strategies.
- Tax Specialization
- Develops in-depth understanding of technical and practical issues and opportunities regarding one or more areas of taxation.
- Organizes and conducts, or participates in conducting, effective external CPE training sessions in area of specialization.
- Trains and mentors managers/seniors/associates on specialization areas.
- Strategy Development
- Introduces and develops new or improved ideas to improve client, Firm, or Firm personnel positions.
- Researches and implements tax strategies, including experimenting with promising new strategies and ideas.
- Makes suggestions for improving previous work products or approaches.
- Presents complex strategies to clients and prospective clients.
- Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervises associates and senior associates on all projects.
- Reviews work prepared by associates and senior associates and provides review comments.
- Trains associates and seniors on using current software tools.
- Acts as a Career Advisor to associates and senior associates.
- Provides verbal and written performance feedback to associates and senior associates.
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics.
- Master's in Accountancy or Taxation preferred.
- At least six (6) years of relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services experience.
- Prior supervisory experience required.
- Industry expertise in one or more tax specialties preferred.
- CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (or equivalent) required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with tax research databases and tax compliance process software preferred.

- Education: Bachelor's degree, required; Master's in Accountancy or Taxation preferred.
- Experience: Six (6) or more years of relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services experience, required.
- Supervisory experience: Prior supervisory experience required.
- Industry expertise: Industry expertise in one or more tax specialties preferred.
- Licenses/Certifications: CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (or the equivalent of one of these designations), required.
- Software proficiency: Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite, preferred.
- Experience with tax research databases and tax compliance process software, preferred.
