Tax Experienced Manager, Core Tax Services
About the role
The Core Tax Services (“CTS”) Experienced Manager – ASC740 advises clients on tax implications, evaluates alternative actions, and identifies methods to comply with tax regulations. This role also serves as the primary client contact for complex corporate tax and ASC 740 tax issues.
Responsibilities
- Tax Compliance
- Ensures clients comply with all applicable authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens.
- Resolves tax issues with clients and involves specialists as necessary.
- Plans and reviews the tax process, including budgeting and staffing.
- Monitors engagement process and actual time incurred vs. budget with assistance of Senior.
- Manages client relationships and expectations.
- Communicates with Assurance team for timely planning of tax accrual reviews.
- Timely billing and collection of A/R.
- Trains managers/staff on research skills and ASC 740 tax issues.
- Manages Specialized Tax Services (“STS”) as needed.
- ASC 740 (fka FAS 109 and FIN 48) Tax Accruals
- Applies Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual (TQM) regarding ASC 740.
- Communicates with Assurance team for timely planning of tax accrual reviews.
- Reviews tax provisions and prepares workpapers.
- Manages workload of associates and senior associates.
- Tax Consulting
- Assists with developing and implementing efficient methods to maximize client benefits, especially by decreasing taxes.
- Serves as a technical resource for client service teams.
- Develops and implements a work plan for ongoing projects.
- Provides effective assistance with exam support.
- Develops an in-depth understanding of one or more areas of taxation.
- Organizes and conducts internal CPE training sessions.
- Strategy Development
- Introduces and develops new or improved ideas to improve client, Firm, or Firm personnel positions.
- Makes suggestions for improving previous work products or approaches.
- Presents complex strategies to clients and prospective clients.
- Collaborates with the Firm’s National Tax and Specialized Tax Services for high-quality deliverables and analyses.
- Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervises associates and senior associates on all projects.
- Reviews work prepared by associates and senior associates and provides review comments.
- Trains Associates and Seniors on using current software tools.
- Acts as a Career Advisor to associates and senior associates.
- Schedules and manages workload of associates and senior associates.
- Provides verbal and written performance feedback to associates and senior associates.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Taxation, required.
- Master's degree in Accounting or Taxation, preferred.
- Six (6) or more years of prior experience, required.
- Prior supervisory experience, required.
- Multinational client experience, preferred.
- CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent ("CE"), required.
- Software experience with Microsoft Office Tools, Adobe Acrobat, and tax compliance process software.
- Experience with tax research databases and depreciation software.
- Superior verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical, research, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
- Able to develop and manage a team of tax professionals.
- Ability to compose written tax advice.
- Ability to effectively develop and maintain client relationships.

Pay
California Range: $115,000 - $165,000
Colorado Range: $100,000 - $150,000
Illinois Range: $120,000 - $139,000
Maryland Range: $121,000 - $145,000
Massachusetts Range: $130,000 - $147,750
Minnesota Range: $100,000 - $130,000
New Jersey Range: $130,000 - $165,000
NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $155,000 - $180,000
Washington Range: $100,000 - $145,000
Washington DC Range: $140,000 - $162,000
