Tax Examiner
Key Responsibilities
- Tax Examiners will perform complex audits, audits of state tax returns to determine compliance with Utah Tax Laws and Rules.
- Interpret tax laws, rules and policies.
- Safeguard compliance with miscellaneous taxes.
- Evaluate and review business reports, tax files and previous audits.
- Schedule and conduct audits with taxpayers.
- Audit taxpayer records.
- Interview taxpayers.
- Prepare audit reports.
- Provide training.
- Answer tax professionals' questions as a part of a contact center.
- Participate in outreach training to educate tax professionals and the public.
Job Duties
Remote/Telework
This position is currently a hybrid of both in-office (2 days) and remote work days.
Please note, a position's eligibility for remote work is established by agency management and is subject to change at their discretion at any time and for any reason.
Qualifications
- At least two years of experience reviewing miscellaneous taxes.
- The knowledge of the theory and practice of law.
- The ability to do extensive research.
- The ability to communicate effectively.
- Possess working knowledge of the Utah State Tax Commission policies and procedures.
- Equivalent of: Four or more years of experience with auditing, or a bachelor's degree or higher in a related field of study in Accounting.
Supplemental Information
- Personal tax filings and vehicle registrations must be current and complete.
- A conditional offer of employment will be made pending a satisfactory completion of a FBI level background investigation.
