About the role
We are seeking an experienced Tax Director, Trusts & Estates (Hybrid) to join our collaborative, people-first team. In this leadership role, you'll partner with high-net-worth clients to provide thoughtful and comprehensive estate planning, trust taxation, and fiduciary compliance services. Responsibilities
- Lead and review high-level individual, fiduciary, estate, and gift tax returns
- Lead and review exempt organization filings for family foundations and related charities, including Forms 990, 990-PF, and 990-T, and oversee compliance calendars and state charitable registrations
- Ensure compliance with multi-state probate, inheritance, estate, and individual income tax statutes and regulations, coordinating filings and requirements across jurisdictions
- Oversee preparation of estate, trust, and guardianship fiduciary accountings to ensure transparency and accountability in estate and asset management
- Research federal and state tax laws by situs, prepare technical tax memorandums, and develop innovative tax strategies tailored to the unique needs of clients
- Provide ongoing consulting and scenario modeling, including multi-year income, estate, gift, generation-skipping transfer, and fiduciary tax projections, estimated tax planning, and distribution strategies for individuals, trusts, estates, and private foundations
- Review and analyze estate planning-related legal documents, ensuring that all strategies align with the clients' goals and legal requirements
- Manage multiple client engagements (and all aspects of client accounts), fostering trusted, long-term relationships
- Mentor and coach team members, providing timely, constructive feedback and leadership
- Participate in business development through networking, speaking engagements, and publishing thought leadership articles
Qualifications
- At least 15 years of recent estate, gift, and trust tax experience with a law firm, an accounting firm, IRS/Treasury, and/or bank or corporation
- Education Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics or equivalent experience; Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Enrolled Agent (EA) preferred; JD or LLM credentials will be considered and are welcomed
- Experience: 990 experience preferred
- Knowledge: Maintains in-depth knowledge of federal and state estate, gift, and trust tax regulations and statutes, including how situs impacts planning, compliance, and administration across jurisdictions; Ability to navigate complex estate planning scenarios; Knowledge of accounting and tax software; Highly motivated with the desire to grow and develop this practice area; Passion for helping clients with estate planning, compliance, and wealth transfer needs; Interest in building collaborative relationships, striving to find the best possible solutions; Ability to travel, as needed for client engagements (mostly local); Willingness to participate in business development activities (guidance and training will be provided)
