About the role

As a Tax Director – Trust, Estate & Gift, you will manage and sign fiduciary, gift, and estate tax returns (1041, 706, 709) as well as select individual income tax returns. You will prepare and lead client meetings on compliance and consulting projects related to tax planning opportunities and the tax implications for the client. You will manage the development of seniors and managers, maintain relationships with a diverse client base across various industries, and assist firm leadership in identifying and obtaining new engagements.

Responsibilities

  • Compliance and Review
    • Manage a portfolio of fiduciary income tax returns, gift tax returns, estate tax returns, and select individual income tax returns.
    • Sign a significant number of tax returns and proactively manage the client experience throughout the process.
    • Demonstrate strong analytical skills and working knowledge of tax and workflow software.
    • Manage engagement workflow, team resources, and billing.
  • Advisory Services
    • Research and analyze a wide range of tax issues and tax implications.
    • Proactively provide wealth planning advice and help clients make informed, strategic decisions relevant to their tax and estate planning needs.
    • Stay informed of current and proposed tax legislation, communicating potential impacts to clients and assisting with planning.
  • People Development
    • Provide leadership, counseling, and career guidance for the development and motivation of the engagement team.
    • Work as part of a coordinated client service approach, collaborating with other practice units to provide industry knowledge and insight.
  • Operational Excellence
    • Review engagement profitability and prepare and analyze monthly billing for assigned engagements.
    • Manage internal engagement assignments to ensure suitable professionals are assigned and firm technology is applied appropriately.
  • Firm Advancement
    • Work as a team on internal initiatives that promote firm growth, culture, technical tax content development, and technological advances.
    • Identify areas for business development and cross-servicing opportunities.

Requirements

  • CPA, J.D., LL.M, or Masters in Taxation.
  • Minimum of 10 years of public accounting experience providing tax planning services and/or preparing and reviewing client work papers and income tax returns.
  • Experience with 1041, 709, and 706 tax returns (706 preferred but not required).
  • Ability to foster client relationships.
  • Strong leadership, training, and mentoring skills.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and tax research skills.
  • Desire to embrace and leverage technology.
