About the role

This role involves leading and overseeing multistate income and franchise tax engagements, delivering strategic, high quality client solutions, serving as a trusted advisor on state tax planning, compliance, and controversy matters, building and strengthening client relationships, guiding apportionment, revenue sourcing, and tax forecasting, conducting and overseeing multistate tax research, developing tools, process improvements, and technology-driven solutions, managing, developing, and mentoring SALT professionals, and leading multiple client service teams to plan, execute, and deliver tax projects on time and within budget.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee multistate income and franchise tax engagements, delivering strategic, high quality client solutions
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients on state tax planning, compliance, and controversy matters
  • Build and strengthen client relationships through proactive communication, responsiveness, and thought leadership
  • Guide apportionment, revenue sourcing, and tax forecasting across income, business activity, and indirect taxes
  • Conduct and oversee multistate tax research to support positions and identify planning opportunities
  • Develop tools, process improvements, and technology-driven solutions including tax engines, automation, and analytics to enhance client efficiency
  • Monitor and implement strategies in response to new state and local tax legislation
  • Manage, develop, and mentor SALT professionals by providing coaching, feedback, and growth opportunities
  • Lead multiple client service teams to plan, execute, and deliver tax projects on time and within budget
  • Foster a culture of excellence, innovation, and client-centered service

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Qualified to practice before the IRS (i.e. Licensed Attorney, CPA, or EA)
  • Minimum of 10 years of State and Local Tax experience with deep expertise in income and franchise tax
  • Minimum of 5 years in a managerial role involving clients and team members
  • Proven ability to generate leads, build relationships, and secure clients

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Accounting, Taxation, or Juris Doctor
  • Public accounting experience, preferably with a Big 4 or national firm
  • Familiarity with Power BI, Alteryx, OneSource, GoSystems, or comparable tax technology platforms

Pay

$194,900 - $265,600 for Illinois residents, New York residents, and Southern California residents.
$203,800 - $277,700 for Northern California residents.
