Tax Director

About the Role

The Tax Director is a senior leadership role responsible for managing key client relationships, providing strategic tax planning and consulting, overseeing complex tax engagements, and leading the tax team. This is a highly client-facing position focused on client success, business development, and practice growth, with a clear path to Partner.

Responsibilities

• Manage key client relationships and provide strategic tax advice.
• Drive client satisfaction, business development, and practice growth.
• Review complex tax returns (1040, 1065, 1120, 1120S, 1041, 990).
• Ensure tax compliance and provide technical guidance.
• Lead, mentor, and develop the tax team, including hiring, training, and performance management.
• Oversee multiple tax engagements, ensuring quality and timely delivery.
• Manage workflow and resource allocation.
• Contribute to strategic initiatives, client retention, and firm growth.
• Represent the firm in the business community.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 10+ years of progressive public accounting tax experience.
• 5+ years of leadership experience managing tax professionals.
• Strong experience in tax planning, consulting, and client relationship management.
• Expertise reviewing complex tax returns across multiple entity types.
• Proven ability to manage multiple client engagements.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• CPA preferred but not required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Taxation, Accounting, or a related field.
• Experience with tax preparation/workflow software.
• Business development, client retention, or practice growth experience.
