Tax Counsel, Vice President

An established financial services organization in New York City is seeking a Tax Counsel, Vice President to provide tax legal support across transactional, advisory, compliance, and audit matters.

About the role

Shift: Day
Schedule: Monday to Friday
Hours: 9am to 5pm (EST)
Setting: Hybrid (at least 4 days a week onsite)

Responsibilities

• Review legal documentation, including credit agreements and ISDAs, and provide tax advice on transactions
• Conduct U.S. and international tax research and prepare written legal memoranda
• Advise tax compliance, legal, business, finance, and senior management stakeholders on tax matters
• Support tax and financial audits, including responses to IRS, SALT, and external auditor inquiries
• Monitor tax law developments, assess impacts, and assist with tax planning and structuring initiatives

Qualifications

• At least 5 years of relevant experience in a law firm, financial institution, accounting firm, or corporate legal or tax department
• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
• Active license to practice law
• Experience with U.S. tax law, including international tax, tax structuring, tax planning, and the taxation of financial services, lending transactions, and capital markets activities
• Strong research and writing skills, critical thinking ability, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to advise stakeholders clearly and concisely and manage internal and external relationships effectively

Skills

• Experience with domestic and cross-border fund structuring
• Exposure to asset classes such as private credit, infrastructure, or private equity
• Experience working independently in a client-focused, self-directed environment
