About the role

This position is responsible for the collection and processing of tax payments related to properties within East Baton Rouge Parish. Provides information to the public and property-related entities regarding taxes due, adjudication, and redemption of real estate within the parish.

Responsibilities

• Process customer payments over the counter, including managing a cash drawer.
• Balance register daily and produce the daily transaction report for Treasury.
• Answer phone calls and questions regarding property taxes.
• Process payments received by mail daily.
• Provide quality service to all customers, which may include walking them to the Assessor's Office or Clerk of Court to assist in handling Tax Office business.
• Figure and send redemption bills via fax or email upon request.
• Research property payment history to determine if prior year taxes are paid in order to update the tax system accordingly.
• Prepare bills and receive proper approval from the Parish Attorney prior to accepting payment for adjudicated properties.
• Scan documents as needed.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school graduate or GED.
• Good communication skills and ability to deal with the general public on a regular basis.
• Ability to multitask and pay attention to detail.
• Working knowledge of computers.
• Agree to criminal, credit, education, and employment history checks.
• Truth verification examination may be required to validate information provided during the selection process.
• Post-employment job offer medical examination and drug test required.
