Preview Proceed to Checkout Pay Later Cancel Human Resources ◄ Back to All Categories Tax Clerk I DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Richmond County is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Tax Clerk in the Tax Collector's Office. Essential functions include: RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist customers by phone or in person Calling delinquent taxpayers to arrange payments Process payments Deposit balancing daily for payments taken Research accounts, locate employment or bank accounts for delinquent taxpayers Prepare bank attachments on delinquent accounts Establish and monitor payment arrangements/plans Maintain current electronic files on delinquent accounts and post all enforced collection payments Other duties as assigned ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to deal professionally and tactfully with the public to answer questions and explain tax related laws and regulations Experience in collecting delinquent accounts/debts Strong problem-solving skills to assist taxpayers to resolve issues Knowledge of methods to locate non-resident delinquent taxpayers Adept at discerning and establishing payment plans with delinquent taxpayers who are experiencing financial difficulties Advanced computer skills, with ability to use Microsoft Office products, including Excel and various databases This is considered light work, requiring the ability to lift up to 20 pounds. Considerable tact and courtesy must be exercised in frequent public contact. Some independent judgment is required in the performance of duties: situations involving complex interpretations of tax laws and policies are referred to the supervisor. Work is performed under regular supervision and is evaluated through observation and discussion for accuracy and compliance with laws and policies. MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Requires a vocational school diploma and 5 years of experience in clerical or financial work, preferably in tax related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
