Tax Associate, State and Local Tax | Dallas Summer/Fall 2028

Responsibilities
- Assist multi-state companies with state and local tax issues (income/franchise, sales/use, excise, and property tax), including compliance, consulting, planning, and controversies.
- Support clients with business tax planning transactions and mergers and acquisitions, identifying and developing state and local tax issues and savings opportunities.
- Research and draft state and local tax technical memoranda.
- Assist with M&A transactions involving acquisitions and dispositions of equity interests (e.g., corporate stock, LLC membership interests) and/or business assets.
- Supervise the work of shared services team members and interns; assist in handling notices, including coordination of shared resources.
- Analyze, prepare, and review tax workpapers and returns, estimated payments, and extensions; stay current on state and local tax legislative, judicial, and administrative developments.
- Build capabilities in key technologies that enable tax professionals for client service delivery, such as artificial intelligence (AI), Alteryx, Power BI, and more.
- Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to develop and sustain excellent client relationships.
Qualifications
- Must have obtained (or be pursuing) a Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in accounting, finance, taxation, mathematics, economics, information technology, data and analytics, engineering (financial, industrial, or systems), or an equivalent program from an accredited college or university within the past 12 months.
- Preferred: Degrees and/or areas of study in Accounting and Taxation.
- Must be pursuing state-specific education requirements to become a licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in the principal place of business, with completion of required academic credits prior to the start date.
- Preferred GPA of 3.0 or above.
- Coursework or minor in information systems, software engineering, computer science, or data and analytics preferred.
- Strong tax research skills and technical, business acumen, critical thinking, and agility skills.
- Demonstrated ability to excel and drive strategic outcomes, coupled with a professional demeanor and collaborative leadership approach in a dynamic environment.
- Strong technical aptitude and ability to learn and navigate technologies such as AI, Alteryx, Power BI, MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook), and apply emerging technologies to enhance tax processes.
- Excellent communication, time management, and leadership skills; feedback-oriented and resourceful in delivering high-quality work.
- Must reside within a reasonably commutable distance to the office and be able to travel to commutable work locations using personal transportation or public transit.
- Ability to travel and/or work on-site at client premises as needed, sometimes with short notice.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for employment-based visa sponsorship now or in the future (KPMG will not sponsor applicants for U.S. work visa status).
