Tax Analyst

About the role

This is an open position within FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. The reporting location for this onsite position is FirstEnergy’s corporate headquarters, located at 341 White Pond Drive, Akron, OH 44320. This position reports to the Director of Tax Planning and is expected to support multiple functions within the Tax Department, including tax planning and business unit support, tax accounting, and tax compliance.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the preparation and distribution of various monthly internal reports
• Participate in the preparation, documentation and analysis of the Company's periodic SEC and regulatory reporting and disclosures, specifically management’s discussion and analysis
• Participate in the preparation of supporting materials for investor relations
• Participate in the preparation and analysis of annual budgets and forecasts
• Provide support and assistance to external auditors
• Conduct ad hoc research, analyze data, interpret results, and provide financial analysis to senior management for various ad hoc projects
• Develop solutions to improve the accuracy or efficiency of complex business processes and/or projects
• Interface with and support various departments within the organization (state finance, rates and regulatory affairs, investor relations, treasury, etc.)
• Consistently anticipate and deliver against a defined action plan
• Understand the financial and strategic goals of FirstEnergy
• Alignment with FirstEnergy’s Core Values and Behaviors as well as priorities of the Finance organization
• Maintain a safe workplace for coworkers and the community based upon knowledge of potential hazards and industry regulations/requirements

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related field required; MBA or relevant master’s degree a plus
• Minimum 4 years’ relevant work experience required
• Strong financial acumen and analytical skills and the ability to connect financial data to business decisions
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); advanced knowledge of Excel a plus
• SAP knowledge is preferred
• Strong understanding of financial cost flows / concepts
• Familiarity with QlikView or other reporting tools
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Utility or regulated industry experience a plus
