About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Senior Tax Accountant specializing in Estate & Trust taxation to join a well-established public accounting firm in Elk Grove Village, IL. This is an excellent opportunity for a tax professional who enjoys working directly with high-net-worth individuals, families, trusts, estates, and closely held businesses. The role provides significant exposure to complex estate and trust matters, tax planning, client consulting, and relationship management while working closely with Partners and other senior members of the tax team. The ideal candidate will come from a mid-size or large public accounting firm and have meaningful hands-on experience preparing and reviewing Forms 1041, 706, and 709.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and review complex Form 1041 Fiduciary Income Tax Returns.
- Prepare Form 709 Gift Tax Returns and Form 706 Estate Tax Returns.
- Prepare income tax returns for deceased taxpayers.
- Support estate, trust, gift, and high-net-worth individual tax planning engagements.
- Read and interpret trust agreements and wills to determine appropriate tax filings and estate structures.
- Research complex estate and trust tax matters and communicate findings to Partners, Managers, and clients.
- Assist Partners and Managers in consulting with high-net-worth individuals, closely held businesses, and their families on tax and financial planning matters.
- Prepare complex individual, pass-through entity, multi-state, and consolidated tax returns.
- Manage multiple client assignments and deadlines simultaneously.
- Organize and manage your own workload and schedule.
- Identify opportunities to improve engagement efficiency and profitability.
- Develop strong relationships with clients and serve as a trusted resource on tax matters.
- Coach, mentor, and support less-experienced members of the tax team.
- Participate in practice development, networking, and business development initiatives.
Requirements
- 3+ years of current public accounting experience.
- Strong experience working with high-net-worth individuals, estates, and trusts.
- Hands-on experience preparing Form 1041.
- Hands-on experience preparing Form 709.
- Hands-on experience preparing Form 706.
- Experience with deceased taxpayer income tax returns.
- Experience with estate and trust planning and complex individual taxation.
- Ability to read and interpret wills, trusts, and related estate-planning documents.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA preferred, or currently eligible and actively interested in pursuing CPA certification.
- Enrolled Agents may be considered if committed to pursuing CPA certification.
- Strong technical tax research and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong client relationship and project management skills.
- Ability to independently manage multiple engagements and deadlines.
- Proficiency with tax preparation software, Microsoft Office, and QuickBooks.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Schedule
This is a 100% on-site position in Schaumburg, IL. During tax season, the team generally works approximately 54–60 hours per week, including Monday through Saturday. Overtime hours are compensated at time-and-a-half.
