Position Overview
The Electrician Maintenance Technician I supports line handling operations for the DHS Customs & Border Protection Tethered Aerostat Radar System (TARS) program. Key responsibilities include:
- Flight Crew Member (pre/post flight, launch/recovery, helium toppings, snubbing, inflations/deflations, tether inspections, proficiency in all emergency procedures)
- Perform corrective and preventive maintenance activities on aerostat pressure control subsystems, power subsystems, mechanical and hydraulic subsystems, aerostat hardware and rigging, tether subsystem, and aerostat envelope.
- Support tasks such as making circuit analyses, calculating wave forms, tracing relationships in signal flow, and using complex test instruments (e.g., dual trace oscilloscopes, Qmeters, deviation meters, pulse generators).
- Operate enclosed mooring system and winch vehicles, site power generators, stand motor vehicles, special man-lift vehicles, and forklifts.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of digital design as relates to radar signal generators, MTI, IF receivers, clutter rejection, mixers, multipliers, low noise amplifiers, and digital displays.
- Operate general purpose and special purpose vehicles to include man lift operations to heights of 150 feet.
- Perform corrosion control and site facilities maintenance.
- Assist with aerostat system pre-flight and post-flight checks and aerostat system inspections as required.
- Assist with operations and maintenance of compressed-gas equipment, including helium transfers to the aerostat for inflation and replenishment purposes.
- Support all security, logistics, and site-specific requirements as directed when not in conflict with primary electrical maintenance responsibilities.
Required Qualifications
- GED or High School Diploma
- 1-3 Years’ experience in electrical maintenance
- Valid U.S. Driver’s license required
- Must be able to understand, speak, read, and write English fluently
- Willingness to work in a 24/7 shift scenario and be assigned to various shifts as required to meet mission requirements
- Proof of U.S. residency required
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior Aerostat Operator experience of any size
- Aerostat basic training course completion for continued employment
