About the role
The Tank Welder is responsible for performing welding and grinding functions per job specifications, selecting equipment, and planning layout and assembly of welding tasks. This role involves working closely with supervision and interacting with precise limits and standards of accuracy.
Responsibilities
- Assemble and fit structural, plate, and mechanical materials into various assemblies according to drawing dimensions.
- Produce quality welds and perform fitter tasks using various positions and metallurgy.
- Assist with fit-up and preparation of welds, as well as post-weld cleanup, inspection, and repair.
- Communicate regularly with the Field Foreman regarding issues and concerns.
- Perform all other job-related duties as requested by supervision.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of prior tank welding/fitting experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively and accurately with employees and customers.
- Must pass required Weld Testing FCAW as determined by CWI/Quality Assurance, including:
- 2G Horizontal on carbon steel plate without backing.
- 3G Vertical uphill on carbon steel plate without backing.
- 4G Overhead on carbon steel plate without backing.
- Weld testing will be coordinated with off-site facility locations.
- Must successfully complete all required pre-hire requirements.
Physical/Site Requirements
- Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 45 pounds.
- Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas.
- Full range of motion and flexibility consistent with age.
- Work up to a 12-hour shift in varying temperature extremes and outdoor conditions.
- Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
- PPE footwear and prescription safety glasses or eye shields required; soft welding hoods are not permitted.
