About the role
Barry’s is the original strength and cardio interval fitness experience, founded in West Hollywood in 1998. The Talent Development Lead (TDL) serves as a leader, Barry’s culture ambassador, and class programming guide for their regional Talent team. This role is responsible for developing instructors to deliver an immersive, high-intensity workout experience that tones muscle, maximizes fat loss, and spikes metabolism. Relocation assistance is available for this position if you are currently based outside Seattle.
Responsibilities
- Talent Development Support:
- Help Instructors develop and deliver a signature experience in Red Room classes through effective programming, inclusive music/playlisting, and engaging workouts.
- Coach Instructors on building community through in-studio and out-of-studio engagement, including social media strategies.
- Partner with Marketing to align Instructors’ social media presence and personal marketing with Barry’s branding strategy.
- Create WOW programming aligned with Barry’s guidelines and address programming-related issues limiting Instructor growth.
- Attend weekly meetings with the Director of Instructor Talent (DOIT) to provide feedback on Instructor performance and MVV alignment.
- Conduct one team-building event per quarter in partnership with the DOIT.
- Implement new programming guidelines as directed by Talent Leadership.
- Experience Evaluations and Quality Assurance:
- Complete one WOW Experience Evaluation per week, followed by a 30-minute feedback session.
- Evaluate Instructors with less than 1 year of tenure quarterly and those with more than 1 year bi-annually.
- Conduct 2-4 informal 30-minute touch-base meetings per month with Instructors.
- Ensure consistent WOW class delivery across the region and participate in schedule optimization.
- Instructor Recruitment and Training:
- Act as the first point of contact for instructor candidates in your region.
- Develop and manage a pipeline of talent, including taking classes outside Barry’s when actively recruiting.
- Source at least one qualified candidate per month during active recruitment.
- Partner with Talent Leadership to finalize candidate selection, including interviews, auditions, and test-out classes.
- Lead new Instructor training, delivering curriculum and providing brand feedback.
- Manage pre-training and post-training support for new Instructors.
- Teaching:
- Own a schedule of at least 15 regularly scheduled Red Room classes per week, adjusted based on studio needs.
- Team Building:
- Conduct one Instructor team meeting per month to review performance and provide training.
- Host a Barry’s Bonding activity once per quarter.
- Take 1-2 classes per week across studios to provide performance-based feedback.
- Work cross-functionally with Talent Leadership and studio management.
- Mentor new Instructors by encouraging them to attend your classes and providing follow-up support.
- Embody Barry’s Mission, Vision, and Values (MVV) and drive company culture.
Requirements
- Availability for full-time work (40 hours per week) with a flexible schedule, including weekends.
- Must hold and maintain Instructor or personal training certification and CPR certification.
- Experience leading group training or working as a personal trainer.
- Excellent organizational and leadership abilities.
- Outstanding communication and people skills.
- Familiarity with MS Office, Google Suite, and business software.
- Top 50% performance amongst peers with no MVV issues or disciplinary actions in the last 12 months.
- For internal candidates: Minimum of 1 year tenure at Barry’s with at least 576 classes taught.
- For external candidates: Minimum of 2 years of relevant group fitness teaching experience with a proven track record of success and leadership in the regional fitness community.
Skills
- Ability to work a full-time schedule of at least 40 hours per week, 5 days per week.
- Ability to maintain regular, consistent, and reliable attendance.
- Ability to routinely sit, stand, bend, reach, lift, push, and pull up to 20 pounds.
- Ability to type, speak, read, and write for up to 8 hours per day.
- Ability to use a telephone/computer for up to 8 hours per day.

Pay
The pay range for this role is $30.21 - $37.50 USD per hour (Seattle).
