Tableau Developer
This is a hybrid position — 3 days onsite in Basking Ridge, NJ and 2 days remote. Target start date: September 14th or 21st.
About the Role
We are looking for a highly skilled, hands-on Tableau Developer to join our pharmaceutical client’s team and play a key role in advancing a data-driven culture across R&D. In this role, you will design and build intuitive, high-impact dashboards that transform complex data into meaningful insights for business stakeholders. You will work with data from enterprise R&D data platforms to deliver scalable, performant, and analytically robust visualizations. This is a technical, problem-solving role requiring strong analytical thinking, deep Tableau expertise, and the ability to translate ambiguous requirements into effective data solutions.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop interactive, user-centric dashboards and reports using Tableau.
- Translate business requirements into clear, insightful visualizations and data stories.
- Build advanced visual components including:
- Drill-downs and hierarchical navigation
- Heat maps, box plots, trend analysis, and statistical charts
- Dynamic dashboards with parameters and actions
- Develop and optimize complex calculations, including:
- Level of Detail (LOD) expressions
- Table calculations
- Conditional logic and dynamic formatting
- Ensure dashboards are accurate, performant, and scalable.
- Maintain dashboard documentation, including mapping specifications, test dashboards, and testing scripts.
- Collaborate closely with data engineers to:
- Define and refine data tables for dashboard consumption
- Ensure data quality and usability for analytics
- Collaborate closely with business analysts to:
- Refine wireframes, metrics, and functional requirements
- Apply best practices in data visualization design (clarity, usability, performance).
- Troubleshoot data and visualization issues, identifying root causes and solutions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or higher degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with Tableau (dashboard development, not just usage).
- Strong experience building interactive dashboards and complex visualizations.
- 3+ years of SQL experience, including:
- Joins, aggregations, subqueries
- Ability to explore and validate datasets
- Solid understanding of data modeling and relational databases (e.g., Redshift, Oracle, Snowflake).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Experience working with tools such as JIRA, Confluence, and Excel.
- Excellent communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Tableau Certification (e.g., Tableau Certified Data Analyst).
- Experience working with R&D or clinical trials data in pharma/life sciences.
- Experience designing dashboards for large-scale or enterprise data environments.
- Familiarity with performance optimization techniques in Tableau.
Role Expectations
- This is a purely hands-on development role — not a reporting, coordination, or oversight role.
- You will be expected to work directly in Tableau and SQL on a daily basis.
- Candidates must demonstrate the ability to:
- Build dashboards independently
- Solve complex data and visualization problems
- Deliver high-quality work under evolving requirements
Pay
$60–68/hour (W2 only). Flexible arrangements available for well-qualified individuals.
