Systems Test Engineer, Sensing
About the role
The Systems Engineering team at Waymo blends software and hardware systems in groundbreaking new ways. This role involves owning significant portions of the sensor verification and validation activities, primarily radar, to support the qualification of fully autonomous operations.
Responsibilities
- Design, execute, and debug automated tests across multiple platforms to verify sensing requirements, expose issues, and identify root causes
- Collaborate with systems engineers, systems test engineers, software engineers, hardware engineers, and external vendor teams to strategize on, create, standardize, and optimize automated testing methodologies supporting periodic onboard software deployment
- Develop reusable, high-quality, sensor data analysis and test automation software (Python and/or C++)
- Create cohesive verification and validation plans, including test plans
- Analyze test data and communicate the results in technical reports and presentations
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in physics, engineering, or other technical field OR equivalent practical experience
- An advanced degree OR 8 years of equivalent practical experience
- Experience analyzing data using Python or other high-level languages (e.g., Matlab, SQL, C++)
- Experience writing testable and maintainable software running in production-level environments
- Experience collaborating in projects with multiple non-colocated contributors and stakeholders
- Experience with systems engineering verification and validation (V&V) methods
- V&V test campaign coordination and execution experience is preferred
- Familiarity with robotics, sensing, optics, or perception technologies
- Experience debugging complex systems
- Familiarity with simulation-based testing
- Experience with autonomous vehicles or other autonomous systems
- Experience with technical program management
