About the role

Woolpert is seeking a Systems Support Lead to join our Advanced Sensing and Processing team in Gulfport, MS. This role goes beyond traditional system support—you will sustain and advance next-generation airborne sensing platforms, including cutting-edge lidar systems operating in mission-critical environments. You will lead the execution and continuous improvement of maintenance, readiness, and reliability strategies across highly integrated electromechanical and software-driven systems, ensuring our systems perform at the highest level to support real-world deployments, flight operations, and large-scale data acquisition efforts impacting national infrastructure, environmental monitoring, and geospatial intelligence programs.

We are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position. Applicants must already possess work authorization in the country the job is located.

Responsibilities

  • Lead system sustainment and lifecycle support for advanced sensing platforms, driving maximum operational readiness and mission reliability
  • Develop and continuously improve preventative and predictive maintenance strategies for complex, mission-critical systems
  • Support flight operations and field deployments, ensuring systems are properly configured, calibrated, and validated prior to execution
  • Perform hands-on troubleshooting across mechanical, electrical, and integrated system architectures, driving root cause analysis and corrective action
  • Coordinate system integration with aircraft platforms, supporting installation, test, and calibration activities
  • Maintain accurate system configurations and service records to ensure traceability, compliance, and repeatability at scale
  • Contribute to and refine technical documentation, including maintenance procedures, troubleshooting workflows, and operational checklists
  • Collaborate across engineering, operations, and software teams to ensure systems meet performance, scalability, and deployment requirements
  • Interface with vendors and partners to support system upgrades, component reliability, and long-term sustainment strategies

What sets this role apart

  • Direct involvement in cutting-edge airborne sensing systems—not just maintaining hardware, but enabling mission success
  • Opportunity to work across the full stack: hardware, software, flight ops, and data systems
  • High-impact work supporting large-scale geospatial programs and national-level initiatives
  • A fast-moving environment where innovation, problem-solving, and ownership are expected

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Physics, or related field; equivalent experience considered
  • 2–7 years of experience supporting or sustaining complex, high-reliability systems in operational or field environments
  • Demonstrated ability to lead or coordinate maintenance and technical support activities
  • Strong hands-on experience troubleshooting electromechanical and integrated systems
  • Working knowledge of structured root cause analysis and failure diagnostics
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly document technical issues and brief both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Willingness to support flight operations, field deployments, and test events as required
  • Ability to operate independently while collaborating across multidisciplinary teams

Preferred experience

  • Aerospace or airborne sensing systems (lidar, imaging, sensors)
  • Robotics, autonomous systems, or embedded platforms
  • High-performance or data-intensive systems
  • Preventative and predictive maintenance methodologies
  • Configuration management processes
  • System integration, verification, and acceptance testing
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, test-driven, and deployment-oriented environments
  • Experience coordinating with vendors and suppliers on system performance, reliability, and maintenance

Benefits

  • Freedom to Work program: Set your own schedule and location (as appropriate)
  • Principal program: Earn the opportunity to become an owner of the firm
  • Flexible paid time off/vacation: Take time off when it makes sense for you and your team
  • Career development: Explore a wide range of learning and growth opportunities within and across industries
  • Health, life, vision, and dental insurance
  • Paid sick time, retirement plan, fitness reimbursement, pet insurance, identity protection, technology stipend, employee assistance program, and more
