Systems Specialist- HVAC

UnityPoint Health - St. Luke's Downtown is seeking a full-time HVAC Technician for a rotating shift that includes nights and weekends.

About the Role

Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs a broad range of HVAC and refrigeration equipment and building distribution systems, including fans, pumps, valves, ductwork, piping, pneumatic controls, steam plant components, and energy management systems. Performs preventive maintenance to maximize reliability and efficiency, ensures safe and cost-effective operation, and completes required regulatory documentation. This role includes rotating on-call coverage, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Must respond to on-call activations within 30 minutes and be available for off-shifts (6 pm to 7 am on weekdays) and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the safety, reliability, and operation of HVAC equipment, systems, and components under minimal supervision, including building automation systems, air supply systems, exhaust systems, critical room control systems, and other assigned equipment.
• Complete regulatory reports related to HVAC.
• Assist with general maintenance as needed.
• Perform competency testing in area of specialization and provide training for other staff.
• Perform Infection Control Risk Assessments and submit them to Infection Prevention when required to obtain permits for work in patient areas.

Requirements

• High School graduate or GED equivalent.
• Diploma or certificate from a two-year technical school or recognized equivalent correspondence course in HVAC or 10 years' experience working in the HVAC field.
• 4 years working in the maintenance and/or repair field with at least 1 year working as an HVAC technician.
• Valid driver's license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
• Strong communication and customer relation skills.
