Systems Software Engineer, Missile Defense National Team (Associate, Experienced, Senior)

The Boeing Missile Defense National Team (MDNT) was established in 2004 to develop and deploy the Missile Defense Agency’s (MDA) Command, Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) system. This system ingests data from sensors around the globe to create a single source of information for the warfighter to enable engagements. The C2BMC Program is a full lifecycle defense contract providing solutions across engineering capabilities including system architecture, development, deployment, operations and maintenance, and sustainment of the Missile Defense System (MDS).
About the role
This position will focus on supporting the Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS). The Boeing Missile Defense Programs support the Missile Defense Agency's (MDA) mission to develop and deploy a layered Missile Defense System to defend the United States, its deployed forces, allies, and friends from missile attacks in all phases of flight. Positions are available at the Associate, Experienced, and Senior levels in Colorado Springs, CO or Huntsville, AL. This role requires 100% onsite work and may require access to an MDA facility, which involves a U.S. government background investigation.
Responsibilities
- Work with industry partners as a key contributor to design, develop, maintain, and test new and existing Java-based applications in support of the C2BMC applications.
- Support the full software development lifecycle including generating design artifacts, implementing software changes, supporting design and code reviews, software testing, and resolution of issues found during testing.
- Actively participate in agile planning and execution using established processes.
- Develop software requirements and architecture in support of MDS systems.
- Develop, select, tailor, and deploy integration and test processes, tools, and metrics.
- Execute and document integration and test activities and events.
- Mentor junior engineers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Active Secret Clearance (U.S. Citizenship required).
- Familiarity with the Agile software development process.
- 2+ years of experience with backend development (Java, Spring, Oracle SQL, SQL Server).
- 2+ years working in Unix or Linux environment.
- 2+ years of experience with development, deployment, and version control tools such as Git, Eclipse, Jira, and VersionOne.
- 1+ year of experience with SysML Modeling Language.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
- 3 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong Java (J2EE/Java Spring) development experience.
- Strong understanding of software development principles including OOP, design patterns, and testing/debugging techniques.
- Understanding of standard system engineering design artifacts such as System Requirements, Use Cases, and SysML diagrams.
- Experience using Eclipse to develop Java-based software applications.
- Experience using Maven, Gradle, and/or microservices.
- Experience with software performance optimization.
- Experience using automated unit testing frameworks.
- Experience developing Command and Control software applications.
- Security+ or equivalent certification within 60 days of starting.
- Knowledge of server-side development and message passing.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to review performance issues, identify root causes, recommend, and develop solutions.
- Familiarity with DevSecOps.
- Missile defense domain experience.

Pay
- Associate level: $99,450 - $134,550
- Mid level: $126,650 - $171,350
- Senior level: $160,650 - $217,350
Potential signing bonus for eligible/qualified external candidates. Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
This position is expected to be 100% onsite and may require occasional travel (less than 10%). Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
