About the role
The Database Engine Team at Databricks is seeking individuals who are passionate about pushing the boundaries of database systems, storage systems, distributed systems, language design, and performance optimization. This team designs and implements innovative solutions across various areas, including query compilation & optimization, distributed query execution and scheduling, vectorized engine execution, data security, resource management, transaction coordination, efficient storage structures, automatic physical data optimization, and more.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement query compilation & optimization algorithms
- Distribute and optimize query execution and scheduling
- Develop vectorized engine execution strategies
- Ensure data security and privacy
- Manage resources efficiently
- Coordinate transactions effectively
- Create efficient storage structures and encoding methods
- Optimize physical data layout automatically
Requirements
- PhD in databases or systems

Pay
The pay range for this role is $150,000—$190,000 USD, reflecting the market value for non-commissionable roles or on-target earnings for commissionable roles. Actual compensation packages are determined based on individual qualifications, experience, and specific work location.
